In FIFO configuration (First-In First-Out), the pallets are loaded in the gravity lanes on the entry side (the highest point). The slope then carries the pallets from the loading point to the retrieval point. When a pallet is unloaded, the next pallet automatically takes its place thereby ensuring that the goods are constantly available.
FIFO stock management guarantees stock rotation as the first pallet to be loaded in a lane is the first pallet available at the picking face on the retrieval side. This management method is particularly efficient for perishable goods.
Interroll flow storage systems are space saving and compact - there are no intermediate aisles, just one for loading and another for unloading.
All products are available at the front of the lane. It is the fastest and most cost-effective distribution system for products with a high turnover. Interroll flow storage facilitates simple and constant stock control. A conventional system requires twice as much space and several aisles, meaning 7 to 8 times longer travel routes for the operators. Consequently, more forklift truck drivers are needed and retrieval and dispatch takes much more time. Below in few word the essential elements of the system:
The rollers are specially designed for storage systems. The rollers used in dynamic storage are 60 mm in diameter and the system guarantees a smooth flow for heavy pallets even on long lanes which can carry up to 50 pallets.
A safety separator at the end of the lanes isolates the pallets to be unloaded. It holds the accumulated line of pallets in the lane and prevents the front pallet from being subjected to the pressure exerted by the line of pallets behind.
A speed controller integrated in the rollers limits the running speed of each pallet to 0.3 m/s..
The interface with other systems and local networks is very simple to install and the WMS naturally knows the origin and destination of the incoming and outgoing items and where they are stored, controls the order picking and guides the operators.
