The whole project for Automation consists of several elements. One of the main elements is the stacker crane.
The need to maximise the surface area in warehouses has led to the development of stacker cranes, designed to work in very narrow aisles and at heights above 30 metres.
Stacker cranes are machines designed for automated storage of materials by means of automated mechanical movements. In order to move the loads in the warehouse, the stacker crane can carry three types of movements:
- Longitudinal – on a rail along the aisle
- Vertical – up the column of the stacker crane
- Transversal: in depth, performed by the extraction system or forks.
Their vertical and horizontal speed and their automated operation triple the capacity of pallet extraction and handling.
Another element of the automated process is the conveyor system that represents an ideal combination between the efficiency of the stacker cranes and the entry, dispatch and handling processes of the load units.
All operations and movements are operated by managing software. The principal objective of the computer management system is to control, coordinate and manage all the processes carried out in the warehouse, from the information received by the ERP, to the control of each of the movements performed by the mechanical and electrical devices.
